Daily Post #22: Baby Brain

The term “baby brain” is something that I’ve read about and encountered early on in my pregnancy. I’ve read about it in this particular pregnancy forum that I frequent to. Baby brain is a pregnancy-induced brain fog which results to forgetfulness or the inability to concentrate on certain tasks. Though there had already been studies and articles claiming the existence of it, there are still another half that says its existence is unfounded. So the debate whether this is just a myth or not is still ongoing.

At first, I did not buy it. Like cravings, I thought it is all in the mind and I’ll be able to control it.

However, I had a lot of bloopers that made me reassess my position.

During my first trimester, I always find myself stopping midway, like I am floating or in a trance. It’s like I can’t move! I made more errors in the job as compared to before I fell pregnant.

Solid examples such as forgetting to put liquid detergent and softener in the washing machine when I started the cycle wash, throwing utensils in the trash, scheduling an antenatal visit with a different doctor only to realize eventually that my results are with another doctor so he won’t be able to assess my scans. I know I had more bloopers than these, but blame “baby brain” I can’t seem to remember all of them anymore!
