Winter in Australia: Opera House and Harbour Bridge in the morning (Day 2 of 6)

Winter in Australia: Opera House and Harbour Bridge in the morning (Day 2 of 6)

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA. We woke up at around 6 in the morning to go with our uncle on his way to work. He was telling us the day before that his office near the Circular Quay has an impeccable view of the Sydney Harbour Bridge on the left and the Opera House on the right. Apparently, Circular Quay is the gateway to the two iconic landmarks and with this, a great idea sparked in an instant. I asked him if we could come with him tomorrow morning, on his way to work, so that we could roam around the city, before the tourists flock in the place hence we were travelling to the city proper that early in the morning.

Our uncle bought us two single-journey tickets each for the ride to and from the city. It took us about an hour before we had a full view of the harbour. I remember being in awe the moment it came to view.

We got off the train and walked towards the Botanic Gardens. We strolled around the garden taking in the peacefulness that welcomed us. We passed by a few joggers and a number of couples walking hand in hand but other than that, the garden was as still as it was when we first entered the place half hour ago.

We walked along the coastal walkway of the Botanic Gardens approaching the Sydney Opera House. The workers were already coming in when we circled back to Circular Quay. Since Sydney has a very nice ferry system, Sydneysiders also opt to commute to work by ferry.

The employees that we bumped into were all dressed to impress. It was even more interesting to see them standing at the back of the ferry which gives tourist-passersby the impression that they are having a private yacht party.

We strolled some more and reached the other side of the harbour. This gave us a different perspective of the Opera House while being near the Harbour Bridge.

We walked back to McDonald's near the Circular Quay station and had our breakfast there while we enjoy the unlimited wifi the store offered. After we were already satisfied appetite-wise and connection-wise, we got back to our feet and walked for 30 minutes to the opposite side of Farm Cove where the Mrs Macquarie's chair is. The perspective that you'll get from there of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House had seriously beaten to the pulp the others as anyone would be able to frame the two icons in one photo.

I did not regret going out of our way to see the city that early. The experience of seeing the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge felt like you realizing that you are lounging in the same coffee shop with a celebrity and it was only the two of you there. There is you doing your thing and he doing his own and it requires no effort whatsoever to catch many glimpses of him.  You know he is there but you are quite sure that he feels your presence too. You compare your preconceived notion of him in your mind seen from magazines to the living flesh sitting across the room. You check his totality but you dare not forget the imperfections like the mole, the scars, and the mannerisms that the magazines and the press wanted so much to contain. Nonetheless, your awe of him did not crumble one bit. A crooked teeth just won't change your idea of him.

Sydney is amazing during those few hours in the morning. The icons are more magical to see during their slumber. They are prettier in their natural state. I am just glad that I was to able to catch them off guard and see their true beauty.
