Loved Foods During Our Walk on a December Afternoon in Prague

PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC. When you are walking the whole afternoon, it is normal to eat a lot and that is because you try to compensate the energy lost through walking by eating more; well, aside from the fact that you just want to eat every little interesting food that you see along your path, of course. That always happens with us. Most of the time, we splurge the bulk of our money on food. Lots of food! Here are some items I deeply, deeply loved during our afternoon walk in Prague.

1. KÜRTŐSKALÁCS

Also known as Chimney cake, this type of cake is made from sweet, yeast dough which is then wrapped around a shortened cone-shaped baking spit making a helix and rolled on granulated sugar. It is baked above charcoal cinders until its surface gets a golden-brown color. The baking process caramelizes the sugar and produces a crispy exterior.

So why was it called chimney cake? Well, aside from its shape which resembles a chimney, it also works like a chimney! After the dough has been cooked, removed from the baking spit and placed in a paper bag, the heat collected from the cooking process and formed in the hollow of the cake then goes out as smoke to the atmosphere much like a chimney! We absolutely loved the process of blowing the smoke on its top before taking a bite!

2. MARCIPÁN

Oooohhh, I adore sweets more than any other food types out there. That is why when we saw and bought this yummy-looking items that very much look like no more than colorful slices of bread and ate it, we were just blown away! It tastes nowhere near a bread. It was unbelievably sweet but so compact you would not be able to finish it in one eating. Trust me, I was still able to save a square inch of it after a week!

Marcipán is a confection made up of sugar or honey and almond meal. This treat is very common in Europe and is often made into sweets and eaten as is. In Prague, they weight it and sell it per gram.

3. KFC FINGER-LICKING GOODIES

As usual, their chicken is so GOOD you will be compelled to get more servings but since the serving size in Prague is much smaller and is more expensive, we were obliged to stick with what we got. And we also tried their Qurrito! Amazingly delicious, these triangle left an indelible impression on my taste buds. Delicious, juicy pieces of chicken accompanied by some stretchy cheddar cheese, topped with BBQ sauce and baked in soft wheat tortillas, I was secretly yearning that our KFCs in the Philippines would adopt this!

Here I am on a Sunday evening, again talking about food. Now this post is making me really hungry. Have to end this post now and get something to stop the drool from dripping! Food or a hanky? Hmmm.
