From Commute to Cars (1/2)

Continuation...

Because of her, I have a service going home from work. This continued until I went back to the Philippines to get married. When I came back to work, she introduced me to her friends who just joined our team. They were all Vietnamese guys. One of them lives just a 5-minute drive from my place. When he discovered this, he immediately offered to pick me up and drop me off from and to my house everyday. This was before Aaron and I found out that I am pregnant. It was such a relief to not wake up an hour earlier just to catch the tram to work. At the same time, I was able to come home an hour earlier than when I was commuting. It is such a blessing - more so when we discovered that I am pregnant.

From a 1.25-hour commute one-way, my travel time was reduced to just 15 minutes. This made me come into an ultimate realization that I really need a car here.

It’s not just now that I’ve thought about getting a car. I have tried to apply for a car loan a number of times just for the heck of it before but to no avail. I never knew it would be that hard for me to get a loan especially knowing how easy it is to get a car and apply for financing back in the Philippines. Australia is seemingly stricter with this and I understood their reasons. With this, I deferred the dream and gave it more time.

Last month, Aaron and I have decided that we should already get a car. Since my work mate has been rostered and he does not know what schedule will be given to him every week, I went back to commuting some other days. It isn’t getting easier, especially for me, now that my belly is getting bigger and that the baby will arrive soon. Because of this need, I knew I’ve got to pick up again the dream of having a car.

I took my learner’s test, which I passed. After getting my learner’s permit, I immediately booked a driving lesson that weekend and settled on a weekly schedule with an instructor. A month after into my regular driving lessons, I took my Hazard Perception Test which I had already passed and in between them, I tried again to apply for a car loan which I got approved of, luckily. Now, I just have to pass my Driving Test so that I could already drive my car.

I still have about a month to prepare for it and I’ll try my hardest to get a favorable result. I know I can do this and I know that with a right attitude and a constant practice I’ll be able to achieve it.
