Prague by Night
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC. Prague is a city like no other. This little surprise is as quirky as it can get. With controversial artworks and statues scattered around, this city would not bore you even just one bit. We roamed around Prague after eating at the lovely and antique-filled U Císařů. It had been a cold night but we just endured it by snuggling more of our body under our coat, our bonnets and our scarves.
We started the night by walking towards the small plaza at Cihelná 2b where the Kafka Museum is located and found ourselves face to face with an artwork of two men standing in front of each other, pissing endlessly in the same pond where they were standing. The artwork was called Piss and it was made by the equally controversial Prague artist Cerny who had already made a name for himself for making more of these kind of artworks and scattering them around Prague. Getting out of the plaza and walking a few meters from the gate did we catch sight of the narrowest street there is in Prague. Our funny and entertaining guide Petr (yes, that's how he spells his Peter) said that this narrow lane which could only let through one person at a time has caused so much fights especially with drunk men who found themselves face-to-face with another drunkie only after they had already gone inside and reached the middle of the lane. To end the unnecessary fights, the government thought of putting a traffic light on both ends so that one could check first if there is already someone inside before they enter. Funny, yes, but ingenious!
We moved on to the river side and caught a glimpse of the Charles Bridge from afar. I know that my picture did not do any justice of what I saw but yes, the infamous bridge was more spectacular by night!
Since we could not anymore take the cold, we made sure to go to a lovely pub and drink Czech beer as recommended by our guide. He said that Czech beers are the best in this world and it is a crime to not drink any when you are here. We headed on to Pražský most u Valšů and drank a beer and two and listened to some lovely music from an accordion player who kept us entertained until we reached the bottom of our glasses and it was already time to bid goodnight.
After which we headed on to the Old Town Square hoping that the Christmas markets are still open. Prague Christmas markets are the country's most impressive because of its winter wonderland setting. But since it was already past 10 pm when we got there, we did not anymore witness its grandeur. Instead we just promised ourselves to go back the next evening. By that time, all we wanted to do was go home, savour what we saw and possibly dream more about Prague in our sleep.
