The Old Town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof

REGENSBURG, GERMANY. A picturesque little city, Regensburg is a city that should not be missed when you are in Bavaria for it houses a UNESCO World Heritage Site: The Old Town of Regensburg with Stadtamhof. Located along the Danube River, the medieval town has many pretty buildings and shophouses of great quality that gives proof of it being an influential trading centre before. 

Walk along the Stadtamhof where the dainty and cute shophouses are lined up and get lost looking at each store that catches your eye. 

At the end of it will you see the infamous Stone Bridge which was built to connect the medieval Old Town to the Stadtamhof. This bridge opened major international trade routes between Northern Europe and Venice. With this, a lot of the wealthy trading families made Regensburg their home. Cross the bridge when you get there and admire the beauty of the Old Town ahead and the calm and lovely Danube River on either side. When you look out to the river, be attentive. Do you see blue on the river? If you do, legend says you are deeply in love. 

Since the Stone Bridge was under construction when we went, we set foot on an adjacent wooden bridge. At the end of the bridge is the Old Town. This medieval town is teeming with fascinating sites that you can visit. Most of their structures are based on ancient Roman, Romanesque and Gothic styles of architecture, so if you are a fan of these types of architectural designs this place would surely satisfy your eyes and senses to the brim. 

Did you take note of the highest structure while you are crossing the bridge? That is the Dom St. Peter (St. Peter Cathedral) and it is one of the magnificent Gothic buildings in the town. Hear mass or just admire its exteriors and interiors. If you happen to partake in a mass, be tingled by the lovely voice of the official choir for the liturgical music of the Cathedral, the Regensburger Domspatzen. The choir is composed of boys and young men only.

After that roam around some more. Take pictures, run on the cobbled streets, make snow balls if it is winter, play and be child-like. No one will mind, because how can they when the city and its amazing pieces look like something carved out from the pages of a fairy-tale book or picked out from a snowglobe. The city encourages you to do just that.
