All in Food Notes

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – I do not think it is wise to start a post with a bet but I have a strong feeling on this one. I bet on my peso that everyone or every family, for that matter, has a "default restaurant". Fair enough, right? It is that restaurant that does not need any pondering on for it to emerge whenever you run out of new restaurants you’d like to try out or when you simply find yourself lazy enough to research about what’s hot right now in the metro.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - The pop-up store that everybody awaits for is finally here in Manila! Magnum Manila opened last April 8 in the magnanimous SM Aura in Bonifacio Global City and is proudly standing along the line of the other new restaurants facing the Sky Park.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - Tucked in one corner of the newly-opened SM Jazz Residences along Jupiter Street corner Nicanor Garcia and a little away from the line of noteworthy restaurants which make-up the new attraction, all of which clamour for attention and warrant a visit visit is this semi-elliptical, 2-storey of a restaurant adorned by glass walls and a bright, red double door that welcomes everyone who enters.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - Sweets, sweets, sweets! I always have this fondness for sweet pickings. Regularly do I eat them, especially when I was still a little girl! From candies, cakes, chocolates to ice cream, I always get excited whenever there is an abundance of which at home. Maybe that was the main reason why I don a 30-inch waistline when I was in my 3rd grade and maybe that is also the reason why I lost a tooth in the process.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES - In lieu of Grandparent's Day, we treat Nanang (our grandma) to a lovely and filling dinner. Since we are craving for some dimsum and dumplings, we march towards Modern Shanghai which is a fairly new restaurant standing in the visitor-packed and largest mall in the Philippines, SM Mall of Asia.

MAKATI, PHILIPPINES - The restaurant that offers the alleged best Katsu in Japan is now standing and kicking in its first ever location here in the Philippines. Ginza Bairin opened store here in the metro a few months ago and we, Pinoys, have never been happier because we now get to taste dishes like this without leaving the country!

MARIKINA, PHILIPPINES - We, Pinoys, love to eat anything grilled (inihaw)! This love extends to all parts of the Philippines as evidenced by the number of grilling stations that we can see in every street and neighborhood there is in the country.

I cannot deny the fact that I love the taste of garlic! Some people may shy away from it, but me, I simply could not resist it! I just love how garlic balances the taste of everything and how it makes a meal interesting to the palate! However, you have to make peace with the consequence of having garlicky breath afterwards. But hey, what's a garlicky breath if you have nice dishes in front of you to consume and devour!

aVeneto Pizzeria Ristorante is one restaurant that I feel guilty of just passing by it. It is not that I do not notice it, I guess I just always choose to dismiss it! Why? Maybe either because of the unassuming and non-attention-grabbing facade or the green, white and red color scheme which give you instantly an idea that this is a place that serves Italian dishes, and you have to know that I am not really a craver of Italian cuisine!

This is one restaurant that I am very excited to blog about! It is because for one, this resto offers Maki and other Japanese-based delights and also because of the commendable ingenuity of the founder to infuse some Filipino soul and ingredients to their otherwise foreign dishes. Yes, you read it right!

A little out of the way from the lengthy strip of Bonifacio High StreetGyu-Kaku (horn of the bull in Japanese), a yakiniku house, sits between a known house of pancakes and a fairly new garlic haven. Established in 1996 in Japan, its first outlet outside the country was opened in the American shores, particularly in West LA.

I have long been waiting for this and now it is here! All the way from the US, Project Pie, the brainchild of James Markham, is a newly-opened establishment along the lengthy Shaw Boulevard. Carrying a sellable concept in its sleeve, Project Pie lets everyone in on a different kind of dining experience.

Kapitolyo: Rub Ribs

Rub Ribs is one of those restaurants sitting along East Capitol Drive in Kapitolyo, Pasig. Weeks prior, we actually passed by the restaurant while we were looking for a place to eat but we were turned off to see the long line outside since our tummies were already growling from starvation.

Where on earth can you find a place where you can indulge in sinful delights and still be in heaven afterwards? Slice, which is owned by Ms. Pia Cayetano, does that to you! A strike of irony, this restaurant has the capability to confine you in your diet through their wide choice of healthy and organic viands but at the same time push you into the bottomless pit of indulgence through their equally wide menu of sinful and yummy desserts.

Three Sisters has been cooking amazing foods for so long now. One of the pioneers along the now-known strip in Kapitolyo, Three Sisters has already stood the test of time. An institution in itself, the restaurant has been already there even before Kapitolyo has been recognized as a foodie haven.

Taking the place of Fish and Co., Smokin' Hot Bar BQ is a new addition to the roster of restaurants in the Greenbelt area. Serving Filipino dishes tweaked to appeal to both the local and foreign palate, another Bistro Group concept is here to stay.

Dishes abound Mad Mark's but as its name implies, sandwiches and frozen desserts are its specialties. Squished between two also infamous restaurants of Kapitolyo, we stormed in this little resto with a known purpose: to eat some good and creamy ice cream to complete the lunch we just had and to possibly alleviate from our minds the hot, humid weather.
